ABSTRACT:
A simple, sensitive, precise and specific reverse phase high performance liquid chromatographic method was developed and validated for the determination of Ethamsylate in bulk and its tablet dosage forms. It was found that the excipient in
the tablet dosage forms does not interfere in the quantification of active drug by proposed method. The HPLC separation
was carried out by reverse phase chromatography on C18 column (4.6 x 250 mm, 5µm particle size) with a mobile phase composed of methanol: acetonitrile: acetate buffer PH 2.8 (60:30:10 v/v) in isocratic mode at a flow rate of 1 ml / min.
The detection was monitored at 290 nm. The calibration curve for Ethamsylate was linear from 0.5 – 100 µg/ml. The interday and intraday precision (relative standard deviation) was found to be within the limits. The proposed method has adequate sensitivity, reproducibility and specificity for the determination of Ethamsylate in bulk and its tablet dosage forms.
